My Typhoon Q500 4K came with an extra cable that seems to plug into the body of the aircraft, then to the camera. I can’t seem to find anything mentioning this cable in any of the manuals I’ve seen. Is this necessary?

I'm pretty sure you don't need it, unless something goes wrong with the slide connections between camera and quad. Keep it as a backup.

What he said ^if you happen to have a crash and the camera gets separated from the bottom plate it will most like pull\break the main wires to the shoe. The easiest fix is to use the provided cable.

As the others mentioned, it's just incase as a backup. Hopefully you wont be needing it!
