I don't necessarily have a need for it but just incase I know that log files are good indicators of finding problems, how does one extract it from their drone?

Will read the log files. Check the 'Downloads' tab at the top of the page for more operating systems, and some useful PDF user info.
The log files are on the ST-10+, SD card installed behind the battery. If you didn't install one, good chance you need to. I've bought two Q500s, first didn't have the card (G, 4k model), the second already had the card installed, Q500+. You can either remove the card (painful), or access through the USB (need to turn on the ST-10+).
If you ever lose you Q500, the last GPS location in the log, can really help. I googled the coordinates, to translate them for my handheld GPS, so I could go hunting, but didn't need to, google gave me a map...
