As the Steady grip runs on AA batteries only operates like for 20 mins, I have done a simple mod and swap to a Lipo battery and it helps extending the run time up to 1.5hr.

I have tested that the CG02+ will stop recording as the battery goes below around 8.33V, as we know 6 fully charged AA is only 9V so no wonders it can only operate for a short period of time.

    The materials needed:
    1X Zippy flightmax 1000mah 3s 25 battery
    1X Female JST connector
    2X heat stink tube
    1X Lipo low voltage alarm

Looks like no soldering required as well. My type of mod!

Don't leave the low voltage alarm connected after use, as it WILL drain and kill the lipo over time! (Of course you get the beeper first, but if you don't hear it going off, the lipo dies as the alarms do not have a protection built in to shut down when a cell reaches 3 volts) (ask me how I know:()

If your using it with the Bottom cover on, i would move the checker to the outside, then you can constantly keep a check. i have a few Lipos currently that should fit, so will set about this later today :) good post :)

Will this mod work on the 4k which takes 8 batteries?

Just ordered all the parts that are needed to complete this mod. I was also one of the lucky few that received a 4K camera with the image sensor screwed on to tightly. They are shipping me out a new camera today. Should have all of this done hopefully by the weekend, if all the parts are in by then.. (Yuneec US is in Ontario, CA. I'm located in Santa Monica, CA. Hopefully it only takes a day for shipping from Yuneec, and 2 days from Hobbyking's warehouse in Oregon.)

Great write up, thanks ! I just did "most" of this mod today. I am still waiting for the alarm. I tried it out though and works great so far with my 4K.

I have installed this 3 cell 3000mah LiPo in my steady grip using this battery. It fits right into the pocket after removing the 8 cell AA box, and the cover will close as usual, Just cut the wires to the 8 cell tray and solder in a JST female plug (observe polarity!). BTW you can get these JST connectors in singles from Tower Hobbies, as well as the battery IMG_20151021_191428.jpg

Hi Dan - have you had a chance to check the running time with the 3000 battery?

What sort of runtime time are you now getting with your modded Steadygrip I'm assuming you used a 1000 mah Zippy battery
