I have used both the Velcro brand and the Scotch brand's to hold LED's and other strong/heavy items and the Scotch brand works the best. Both Scotch pieces are the same, hard plastic that interlock and not like the Velcro where one side is "hook-sharp points" and one side is "loop-fuzzy side". The Scotch brand is very stiff and the pieces snap together to hold FPV cameras, LED's and other items and never fail me. I think as long as both pieces you stick together are the hard plastic, snap in type it would hold better. I think the type of stuff that has fuzzy/soft side and the other piece stiffer would not hold as strong. Also if it is something you are attaching together you are not going to take apart again or see then sometimes I use a fine grit sandpaper to rough it up, then clean with isopropyl alcohol then put Velcro or Scotch fastener strips onto surface.

Looks just like mine, I took that crappy double sided tape off first thing, replaced with velcro, never a problem.
